About Women

Pat Schroeder

Feb 13, 1989

Pat Schroeder, representative for Colorado’s 1st congressional district in the United States House of Representatives, discusses her career in Congress and the changes she hopes to enact through her work. Her campaign includes changes such as pension reforms, paid equity, accessible and affordable daycare, and job protection. She talks about the issues currently facing families in America and the lack of supportive policies to address issues such as maternity and paternity leave. During her career, Schroeder became the first woman to serve on the House Armed Services Committee, served as co-chair of the Congressional Caucus of Women’s Issues, was a member of the original Select Committee on Children, Youth, and Families, and published of her autobiography, Champion of the Great American Family: A Personal and Political Book (1989). The discussion concludes with audience questions.
