Do We Need A Constitution for the Metaverse?

Philip Rosedale, Dave Waslen and Gayatri Khandhadai in Conversation with Brittan Heller

Sep 15, 2022

The Metaverse is a brave, new virtual frontier that will play an increasingly important role in our lives. But what rights will we have as individuals and communities in a world likely to be built by corporations? Even if the Metaverse is years away, critical decisions are being made now about how the future is being built. If we want to make sure we all have a voice, should we start thinking about a Constitution for the Metaverse?

Join Philip Rosedale, web pioneer and creator of virtual world Second Life, Dave Waslen, Co-Founder of Metaverse platform Wilder World, and Gayatri Khandhadai, Digital and Human Rights and Policy Expert, in conversation with Brittan Heller, Senior Fellow at The Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab, for an in-depth discussion on safeguarding global democracy in this emerging digital environment.

This event is co-presented with OneShared.World

Founded in the early days of the pandemic, OneShared.World is working to help better address our global collective action problem to make solving our greatest common challenges more possible. Our Declaration of Interdependence has been translated into 20 languages, schools around the world have begun to implement our interdependence curricula, and our global campaign for safe water, basic sanitation and hygiene, and essential pandemic protection for everyone on earth by 2030 resulted in groundbreaking new language in the November 2020 Riyadh G20 summit communiqué and in a resolution passed by the UN General Assembly. Millions of people across the globe have joined our public events, including our two annual summits. Focusing on the mutual responsibilities of our global interdependence, our movement seeks to drive real and meaningful change in practices, structures, systems, and outcomes to ensure tangible progress toward building a safer and better world for all.
