Ways to Help

Tell the Senate to Confirm a U.S. Ambassador to Israel Immediately. A confirmed U.S. Ambassador to Israel is fundamental to ensure that the United States supports the Jewish state in its time of need. Join ADL in calling on your Senators to urge a swift confirmation of Jack Lew as U.S. Ambassador to Israel.

Sign this ADL petition now. Tell the media to do better in this time of crisis. They must call Hamas the terrorist organization they are, rather than depicting them as militants or a resistance to Israel.

I Demand the Media Cover Israel and Hamas Accurately

It’s very important that funders pace themselves. We understand the desire to help right now, but this is going to be a long and protracted war, and the rebuilding process will be even longer. There will be huge needs in the months to come, and while responding to the emergency, funders need to be mindful of the long term. Suffice it to say that many communities in the south were literally decimated and will need to be physically and psychologically rebuilt. As an example, Kibutz Be’eri, with 107 killed, lost almost 10% of their inhabitants. This is proportional to New York City losing 800,000 people. That will take long time and a lot of help to heal. We are advising funders to give to organizations that can, and will, do both the short term and the long term work. Organizations listed below meet that criteria. Federations appeals are a good way to give, as they work with established partners on the ground.

How to Talk Like a Zioness

The backbone training program of our organization — an opportunity for Zionesses to learn how to show up as both Zionist and progressive in the places and spaces we care most about. During our time together, we will train interactively to equip and inspire Zionesses of all stripes to enter all spaces, progressive or otherwise, with the tools and experience to effectively advocate for justice without checking our Zionism at the door.

Reflections

Oct 30, 2023

A message for the community of The 92nd Street Y, New York from 92NY’s Senior Director of Jewish Life and the Senior Director of 92NY’s Bronfman Center for Jewish Life, Rabbi David Ingber:

We are now just over three weeks from the October 7th massacre, during which over 1400 people in Israel – Jews and non-Jews, Bedouins, and Muslims – were ruthlessly murdered, burned, and slaughtered. Innocent non-combatants were targeted by a terrorist organization, Hamas, whose stated purpose is the destruction of the State of Israel and the murder of Jews. Additionally, over 200 people – men, women, elderly, and children – were taken captive from Israel, their whereabouts unknown and their well-being uncertain.

Predictably, this unprovoked, pre-meditated pogrom has led to even more death and destruction. Our hearts are heavy with the loss of all innocent lives, whether Palestinian or Israeli, Jew or non-Jew. The Jewish tradition recognizes that each human being is created in the image of G-d. This fundamental truth makes this an excruciatingly painful moment for all who believe in the infinite worth and dignity of all human beings on the one hand and Israel’s right to defend itself on the other. As we stand committed to Israel today and every day, we also pray that all innocent lives be protected and shielded at this moment.

Oseh Shalom Bim’rovmav, Hu Ya’aseh Shalom Alaynu

May the One who makes heavenly peace bring earthly peace for all of us. Amen
