There is no better place to experience dance than 92NY Harkness Dance Center. It’s where legends like Martha Graham, Alvin Ailey and Merce Cunningham pushed boundaries and evolved the art form. Where modern-day pioneers continue to take risks and debut dance’s most exciting works. And where tomorrow’s stars are incubating today.
Harkness Dance Center connects artists, audiences and students of dance like nowhere else in New York City. World-class dancers and choreographers in our Performances season lead classes and workshops for students in our classrooms. Our celebrated artist-in-residence program puts audiences at the leading edge of new ideas in movement. Our Dance Education Laboratory leads the way in dance education by providing training and support so educators can experiment, create, learn and innovate.
The School of Dance was founded in 1935. In its first year, legends like Martha Graham, Doris Humphrey, Charles Weidman, Hanya Holm, Anna Sokolow and Bonnie Bird led its dance classes — and the School has been a catalyst for generations of artists and educators in the dance field ever since. Now, some of today’s most exciting performing artists teach here. Children can take ballet with stars from the Metropolitan Opera Ballet, tap with dancers from Dorrance Dance, and hip-hop dancing with Mai Le Ho (Passion Fruit Dance Company). For adults, our dance studios offer a full range of programs — from Modern to salsa to tap — and are home for NYC’s hottest Lindy Hop and Swing classes with Caleb Teicher, Nathan Bugh and Gaby Cook.
Whether you like to dance, watch dance, learn about dance or teach dance, there’s a place for you in the Harkness Dance Center. Welcome!
