Instructors

Janice Grzyb

Janice Grzyb has been a jewelry designer and fabricator of one of a kind pieces, limited editions and custom work for over 25 years. Her work encompasses a wide range of techniques using precious metals and a variety of precious and semi-precious gem stones. Often her pieces incorporate unusual elements collected from her travels, which give her work an exotic quality and an aura of antiquity. Janice graduated from Maine College of Art in 1981. She has exhibited her work in many prestigious galleries throughout the US and abroad. Her work has been among publications such as Europa Star, Lark Books and Art Box Japan. Janice is the proud recipient of the Saul Bell Design Award for the year 2011 and is a member of Society of American Silversmiths.

Klaus Burgel

Klaus Bürgel received his training at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich and at the Goldschmiedeschule Pforzheim. He has had one person exhibitions at Oliver Art Center, California College of Arts and Crafts, Oakland, CA; Bernard Toale Gallery Boston, MA; Goethe Institut, Boston, MA; and Jewelerswerk Gallery, Washington D.C. His most recent group shows include: Micromegas, American Craft Museum, NY; Historical Connnections, Mobilia Gallery, Cambridge, MA; The Perfect Collection, Fuller Craft Museum, Brockton, MA. Lisa Spiros

Lisa Spiros was born in New York City, where she is currently teaching jewelry making at 92nd Street Y, as she has for the past fourteen years. Some of the schools she has taught at include Parsons School of Design, New School for Social Research, New York University and The State University of New York at New Paltz. She has been invited as a guest lecturer and visiting artist by The Rhode Island School of Design, Massachusetts College of Art and the Hiko Mizuno College Art in Tokyo, Japan. Spiros received her B.F.A. in Metals from The State University at New Paltz, NY and attended graduate school at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, Germany.

At The Parsons School of Design, Spiros taught art history; “Survey of Contemporary Metalsmithing”, coordinated the Metals program and taught the Metals B.F.A. degree program, in both the Senior Studio as well as the Senior Thesis courses. Shella Robinson

Shella Robinson currently teaches Jewelry I, Jewelry II, and Independent Study at the 92Y School of the Arts. She is also the owner and the Art Consulting and Operations Director for Art Consultants Group. After graduating with a BFA in Metalsmithing and Jewelry from the University of Oregon, Robinson earned an MFA in Metals and Jewelry at the State University of NY, New Paltz, where she also taught as an adjunct professor. Janna Gregonis

Janna Gregonis received her MFA in Metals from East Carolina University and her BFA in Metals from Kutztown University. Janna has taught at Kutztown University, St. Johns University, Peter's Valley, the Newark Museum and is currently teaching at the Baum School of Art in Allentown, PA and 92nd Street Y. She is the former Director of the Jewelry department at the Craft Students League at the YWCA of New York City. Janna has worked at the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum. In January of 2009 she travelled to Cameroon where she taught women infected with AIDS and HIV how to make jewelry.
