“I certainly don’t think poems have to be autobiographical in any way, and it can be a frustrating assumption, I’m sure, but I’ll say this: I write about myself. And, yes, things were rough there for a while. But poetry is art, and I get to change details and employ metaphor and get kind of crazy with reality and thought.”
– Lynn Melnick in conversation with Mary Jo Bang
Taking inspiration from a diversity of poets, this workshop encourages students to work with poetic devices and forms as they uncover their own talents and voice. We discuss student work, as well as that of published poets, and engage in exercises designed to introduce the variety of poetry being written today.
Meets Thu: Oct 13, 20, Nov 3, 10 and 17 and Dec 1, 8 and 15.
