Allison Valchuis, Director, 92Y Art Center

Allison Valchuis is a sculptor and educator with over 15 years’ experience in community arts education. Allison joined the 92Y Art Center staff in 2010. She is a member of the 2015 Community Arts Education Leadership Institute through the National Guild for Community Arts Education. Prior to her 92Y career, Allison worked with the Smithsonian Institution’s Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum to help bring design-thinking to the classroom across the country through professional development programs for educators, teen programs, and curriculum development. She also served as an Americorps*VISTA at Rhode Island School of Design’s free teen portfolio prep and outreach program Project Open Door where she organized community partnerships and developed college readiness programs.

As an artist, her work explores process, material, weight, and balance through various ceramic practices, drawing, and a love of good craftsmanship. She received her BFA in ceramics from Rhode Island School of Design and has been awarded residencies and scholarships at RISD’s European Honors Program in Rome, Italy, Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts in Newcastle, ME, Ox-Bow, School of Arts and Artists Residencies in Saugatuck, MI, and Red Lodge Clay Center in Red Lodge, MT.

Paul Metrinko, Art Center Operations Manager

Paul Metrinko moved to New York City after graduating from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts with a BFA in Painting in 2011. He has worked in positions at galleries and auction houses in the city managing exhibitions and gallery operations.

Community Arts education holds a special place in his heart and he credits the Continuing Education program at the Pennsylvania Academy for starting his journey as an artist. While at the Academy, he was an assistant in the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program, facilitating mural production in afterschool programs.

Paul is a working artist that has shown and curated shows in the city and across the United States. His favorite painting is Matisse’s “The Piano Lesson.”

Emily Coyne, Art Center Programs Coordinator

Emily joins the team with a background in jewelry design. She graduated in 2011 from Kutztown University (Kutzown, PA) with a BFA in Crafts, concentrating in Fine Metals. Directly after graduating she moved to New York City where she has gained experience in many different creative fields, which include visual displays for retail, costume jewelry design for mass market and production management for luxury goods for the home.
