Center for Arts Learning & Leadership

  • 92Y’s Teen Producers initiative is a two-year career exploration and mentorship program that helps high school students acquire the tools they need to pursue careers in the creative industries, develop as artists and contribute to programming at 92Y.

Teen Producers invites juniors from select Bronx-based high schools to gain technical, curatorial and leadership skills through a two-year apprenticeship at the 92nd Street Y.

Program Components

Internship Placement

Teen Producers participate in weekly internships with 92Y creative directors, producers, graphic artists, web designers, marketers and development officers. The internship enables teens to gain hands-on workforce experience, establish a professional network in the field, and use their individual and collective voice to influence program design.

Private Study

Participating teens have the opportunity to develop their technique in their chosen art forms through yearlong, subsidized private study with faculty in 92Y’s School of the Arts. 92Y covers all costs associated with private study.

College- and Career-Readiness

Teen Producers work one-on-one with a college advisor during the college identification and application process, helping them through the financial aid process, the Common Application and their personal statements.

Attendance at Cultural Arts Events

Teen Producers attend a range of performances and exhibitions at 92Y and other NYC-based arts organizations. 92Y covers all costs associated with attendance at events, including tickets and transportation.

Culminating Production — Teen Arts Week

In Year Two, as high school seniors, the Teen Producers pool their respective knowledge, strengths and skillsets to produce the annual Teen Arts Week Youth Summit at 92Y.

Eligible students must be:
  • Juniors enrolled in a New York City public high school
  • Available to participate in a weekly, afterschool internship placement at 92Y
  • And have the written consent of a parent or guardian to participate

Email the Center for Arts Learning & Leadership if you’re interested in becoming a Teen Producer.
