Get out your handkerchiefs: you’re about to see what a true hero looks like.
Won’t You Be My Neighbor?, Focus Features’ documentary about the late, great PBS children’s show host Fred Rogers reminds us how a little kindness can change the world. Join director Morgan Neville for a special #GivingTuesday presentation and conversation with Stephen Colbert following a screening of the documentary Chris Nashawaty said is “The movie we need right now. A balm of kindness and empathy in these troubled, divisive times” (Entertainment Weekly).
Around Thanksgiving and #GivingTuesday, individuals, families, and communities come together to show each other generosity, empathy, and kindness. It's a common time for people to volunteer and give back in whatever ways they can. When the filmmaker set out to make this film about Mr. Rogers, his mission was to tell the story of how Mr. Rogers brought kindness and love to the world and conveyed a message of compassion on television. The producers of the film were inspired by the countless acts of kindness that were generated in response to the film's release.
For #GivingTuesday, Focus Features wanted to bring the film to more people and tie it into this larger movement fueled by generosity, empathy, and kindness. By you attending this event, Focus Features has committed to donating free DVDs of the film to educators.
