Third Thursday Artist Talks

Join the Art Center on November 16 for our 3rd Thursday Artist Talk with Melanie Baker.

Melanie Baker lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. Baker earned her BFA from Pratt Institute and her MFA from Stony Brook University. Baker's artwork has been featured in solo and group exhibitions at many venues around New York City including the Brooklyn Museum, the Jersey City Museum, Roebling Hall and White Box. Baker received a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in 2003 and was named the recipient of the 2003 New York Foundation for Arts Prize. Other grants and fellowships include the Art Omi International Artists' Colony, the Sacatar Foundation in Bahia, Brazil, the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s Workspace Program, Djerassi Resident Artists’ Program, the Tyrone Guthrie Center at Annaghmakerrig, Ireland, Valparaiso in Mojacar, Spain and Yaddo.

Gustav Hamilton

Gustav Hamilton received a BFA from the University of Montana and his MFA from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. Prior to moving to New York City he was a Visiting Professor at Colorado State University. His sculptures and paintings exist as auto-fictitious objects where real life events merge with fictional narrative. In this space of total authorship family heirlooms have as much relevance as imagined encounters with Jerry Seinfeld.

Peter Bonner

Peter Bonner was Born in Australia, has studied Art in London, Melbourne and New York and is influenced by the New York School Artists as well as the wonderfully talented Australian aboriginal Women who are making art in the Central Australian Desert. He has worked and studied in Russia, Spain, Italy, France, Norway, The Central Australian Desert, the American West and other extreme environments, including NYC!

Sheryl Oppenheim

Sheryl Oppenheim was raised in Orlando, Florida and currently lives and works in New York City. She is a painter who began to learn the craft of marbling after encountering marbled papers at her first job in New York, at a bookbinding supply house. Her books of marbled paper are in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Watson Library, the New York Public Library, the Walker Art Center, the Kohler Art Library and the Brooklyn Museum. Bethany Robertson

Bethany Robertson is a Brooklyn-based illustrator, hand-lettering artist and educator. Bethany currently teaches her own hand-lettering workshop. Most of her projects for lettering and illustration are within publishing, but she has also created work for the mobile app Mia Mia Beauty, logos and branding, and wedding invitations.
