92Y Young Leaders Series

The Knights present “Wings of Song”

Colin Jacobsen and Bridget Kibbey

Members of New York-based orchestra The Knights share music that takes flight, written for flute, clarinet, strings and harp.

As the pandemic has forced humanity to confront some of nature's destructive power, it has also been an opportunity to slow down and notice its beauty in many different forms, particularly in the guise of birds and other winged creatures, often found hovering right outside our windows. Music across cultures has often been inspired by either literal birdsong or the spiritual experience of uplift through sound. Musicians from The Knights will demonstrate their individual instruments' capabilities as well as how they blend together to tell sonic stories of winged creatures.

Program to include musical excerpts from the following works:

Vivaldi: Il Gardellino
Rodrigo: De Los Alamos Vengo
Ravel: Introduction and Allegro
Joao Gilberto arr. C. Jacobsen: Undiu
C. Jacobsen/Aghaei: Ascending Bird
V. Williams: Lark Ascending
Tommy Potts arr. C. Jacobsen: The Butterfly
