Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire tells one of the great mythical stories, set to music in truly legendary fashion.
In this just-added performance, which follows the sold-out 8 pm concert, the “resplendent…warm and majestic” (The Washington Post) soprano Lucy Shelton, reprises Arnold Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire—a piece that points toward an entirely new musical world. Shelton, who is a monumental force in contemporary music, is joined by pianist Benjamin Hochman and an ensemble comprised of some of New York’s finest musicians, to conduct us on this fantastical journey with the moondrunk Pierrot.
