Inside the Concert with Naomi Lewin: Jason Vieaux

Naomi Lewin and Jason Vieaux

Former WQXR host Naomi Lewin moderates a series of conversations with renowned artists featured in 92Y’s current concert season. Together they explore and illuminate works they’ll be performing on our stage.

Grammy Award-winning guitarist Jason Vieaux talks with Lewin about his upcoming April 17 livestream concert featuring the premiere of a new work for solo guitar by guitar icon and composer Pat Metheny. Metheny wrote the new four-movement suite, Four Paths of Light, specifically for Jason’s artistry — the two are friends, and have admired each other’s work for years. Jason talks about working through the piece with Metheny and readying it for its world premiere recording on the new album Road to the Sun, which marks Metheny’s expansion into chamber composition.

Hear Jason talk about the thrill of working with a living composer (who is also a personal hero) to shape a new piece, the challenges of adapting his “classical” guitar sound, and more. He performs passages from Four Paths of Light as illustration. Join us for an hourlong exploration of an important new composition by one of music’s most innovative voices, with the artist who will bring it to life on our stage.
