The only guitarist ever to win the prestigious Naumberg International Competition Award, Caballero is hailed for his dazzling virtuosity and spellbinding performances. His repertoire is noted for its breadth and scope, as reflected in this program, with the guitarist’s own arrangement of Albeniz’ Spanish gem for piano showcased alongside another in Rimsky-Korsakov’s vibrant Capriccio espagnol. Caballero makes a compelling case that even when composed for other instrumentation, music infused with the spirit of Spain sounds most natural on the guitar. A Bach partita and the world premiere of a new piece composed by the guitarist round out the program.
“I have seen the future of the guitar, and its name is Caballero.”
