Frank Sinatra – Spring is in the Air ... and in the American Songbook

“This is a home run”

John Lahr, Theater Critic, The New Yorker

American Songbook buff Jim Jimirro returns by popular demand to share insights, behind-the-scenes anecdotes and music from his vast collection.

Jim’s presentations are packed with music, information, stories and humor as he passionately shows us how to listen to the structure of the music and the poetry of the lyrics. Each lively program is unique and features new songs and stories, from Vaudeville to Tin Pan Alley to Broadway to Hollywood. In this session, Jim takes a look at the evolution of a Frank Sinatra classic — from its first iteration as sung by the composer, Frank Loesser at a backers' audition, to the Broadway showstopper it became in the hands of Robert Morse, and finally to the swinging, jazzy version sung (and owned) by Sinatra himself. Of all the seasons, none is more evocative than spring (and the feeling is often bittersweet). Learn about two featured songs of the season "Spring is Here" by Rogers and Hart and "Spring Will be a Little Late this Year," by Loesser again. Finally, in the center of spring is our own month of April Bobby Darin has lost something, but promises that he will ... "Remember April."
