Three time bodybuilding champion, amateur boxer and wellness expert, Sam López, discusses Puerto Rican culture, food and his unique 10-seat pop-up restaurant with 92Y’s very own resident food historian, Francine Segan.

Talk will include a tasting of a pastelon — Puerto Rican lasagna — and a raspberry toasted almond topped flan.

Sam Lopez

Samuel López is a wellness expert and popular fitness instructor at 92Y. For the past 10 years he has broadened his horizon by hosting dinners for 10 people on Saturdays from a secret location on the Grand Concourse in the Bronx where guests sit down to a unique, intimate dining experience which he calls Ocho Platos. The food is his variation on foods inspired by his travels, artists masterpiece paintings that are in exhibit, as well as adding a hint of Puerto Rico culture to every meal.

Francine Segan is the author of six books including Shakespeare’s Kitchen and Dolci: Italy’s Sweets. Her most recent book is Pasta Modern.
