Students and their teachers in grades 3-5 join celebrated tap dance company Dorrance Dance for an interactive presentation about the legacy of rhythm tap and innovative art during the pandemic.
Since the start of the pandemic, we’ve all had to find new ways of connecting with the important people in our lives. Performing artists have had to get especially creative to find new ways to create art together from a distance. Award-winning tap dance company Dorrance Dance got really creative! Dorrance Dance experimented with technology in new, exciting ways to continue dancing together during the COVID-19 crisis. Even though they weren’t physically near each other, sometimes in totally different states across the country, the dancers figured out a way to create a new piece of choreography, a dance they would name DD128QR. In this interactive event, we invite students and their teachers to experience the power and joy of tap dance, as we reflect upon problems we have encountered during the pandemic and how we have addressed or solved them in different and creative ways.
This event is produced through 92Y’s Young Leaders Series: a virtual education program that connects classrooms across the country with leading figures in the arts and humanities. The Series invites students to discover their own artistic and intellectual passions, identify resources to pursue those passions and shape the future of their world.
