Instructors

Julie Collins

Juliette Collins (MA, LMT), is a movement artist, dance educator, and somatic movement therapist who has been practicing and teaching dance, movement, and the healing arts in NYC for over forty years. She has an MA in Dance/Dance Education from NYU, a Creative Arts Therapy certificate from the New School, and is currently pursuing her R-DMT from the American Dance Therapy Association. At present, Julie teaches movement workshops that explore the connection between creativity and healing, based on the principles of Dance/Movement Therapy, the practice of Authentic Movement, and the creation of Movement Choirs. Julie has been teaching Wellness in Motion classes at the 92nd Street Y Harkness Dance Center since 2007: both Dance Therapy and Exercise for People with Movement Disorders, and Dance for Individuals with Memory Loss and Family Caregivers.

Miriam Roskin Berger

An early pioneer of dance therapy while she performed with the Jean Erdman Theatre of Dance, Dr. Berger teaches dance therapy at New York University, where she was the Director of the Program in Dance Education from 1993–2002. She is also currently the Director of the Dance Therapy Program at the Harkness Dance Center of 92nd Street Y. She has created dance therapy training programs in the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and Sweden, and has taught dance therapy and the Movement Psychodiagnostic Inventory in France, Germany, Greece, Korea, Norway, Poland, Russia, Slovenia and Taiwan. Cecilia Fontanesi

Cecilia Fontanesi is a dancer, certified movement analyst (CMA), dance/movement therapist (R-DMT), and neuroscientist. She graduated from the Laban / Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies (LIMS, New York), where she currently teaches as Core Faculty. Cecilia is also completing a PhD in Neuroscience on Dance for Parkinson's at the Graduate Center (CUNY, New York). In 2015, she co-founded the collective of dancers Parcon NYC, dedicated to exploring the relationship with the environment through movement and social reflection.
