Artists have long been called upon to make sense of the tragedy of war, celebrate the victories, and mourn the losses. Indeed, many important works were created in war time and the years thereafter.
We will study eras from the French battle scenes of Delacroix to meditations on the Vietnam War by contemporary artist Danh Vo. With the newest scholarship, this course will discuss how artists depict war and how their work shapes and skews public opinion. Looking at exceptional works of art together, we will expand and challenge our understanding of world events and the ramifications of war. Join the conversation as we share ideas and experiences in order to gain a deeper understanding by learning from each other.
