2D Design: Fundamentals and Beyond

In a staggered learning format, new students explore the fundamentals of 2-D design, while returning students explore advanced projects such as designing a rug, creating a brand identity, and designing a sacred space such as a church or synagogue.

The principles of 2-D design: balance, emphasis, movement, pattern, repetition, proportion, rhythm, variety, and unity are first explored in a series of black and white collages that strengthen student's understanding of composition and positive / negative space. Subsequent work with atmospheric perspective, symmetry, frieze patterns, and wallpaper groups create a solid 2-D foundation.

This course is open to students working in any media, at any level of experience.
