Fiction writing is the art of lying to reveal a truth.
Over the course of our sessions, we develop an understanding of how good fiction works and learn how to use elements of craft—voice, structure, point-of-view, dialogue, etc.—to create convincing, compelling stories. We also explore what Dorothea Brande called “the duplicity” of writing: “the unconscious must flow freely and richly,” even as “the conscious must control, combine and discriminate.”
Students are chosen by Anna Solomon on the basis of a manuscript submission. Applications must be received by Friday, September 24 at 5 pm. View the submission guidelines.
Class meets Wednesdays: October 13, 20, 27, November 3, 10, 17. Scholarship assistance is available. Applications must be returned to Scholarship Services at least two weeks before the first session.
