Bette Barnett: Etching Steel for Dimension and Depth

Etching steel adds dimension and depth unsurpassed with other metals.

In this live online workshop, you’ll learn the process of electro-etching steel, a method that provides extreme sharpness and detail. After learning the basics of creating steel jewelry you’ll add your own hand drawn etched patterns or create designs using laser printed patterns and adhesive backed stencils. To top off your skills, you’ll create an etched steel pattern plate that can be used to transfer designs to softer metals. Finally, you will learn to finish your steel jewelry by applying a patina and sealing the surface with a metal wax. The online class consists of four two-hour units, with instructor open studio access during down time. During down time the instructor will offer an optional one-hour online open studio session for discussion, questions, and troubleshooting.
