Escape to Italy and dive into the history and riches of Ravenna, as Italian food and culture expert Francine Segan takes you on a captivating virtual journey marking the 700th anniversary of the death of Italy’s greatest poet, Dante Alighieri.
You’ll explore this UNESCO World Heritage City — home of Dante’s final resting place — as Segan leads you through its sights, art, music, and of course its food and wine.
With Segan as your virtual tour guide, you’ll discover Ravenna through Dante’s world — the poet’s tomb and the Quadrarco of Baccioforte, where his bones were hidden for safe-keeping during World War II — and the magnificent 5th Century mosaics, churches and other sites that were part of Dante’s post-Florence life in the city. Segan couples fascinating history with a discussion of the many Dante anniversary celebrations taking place in Ravenna this year — you’ll even get a look at La Luce delle Parole, the magical light installation running through the city center featuring illuminated verses from the Divine Comedy.
Registration includes a handout with details on the many anniversary events being streamed from Ravenna and all over Italy and the world throughout 2021.
This program will take place on Thursday, August 5 from 6:30-7:30 pm ET. This program will be recorded and available for later viewing by those who register.
