Join our legendary neighbor, Kitchen Arts and Letters Bookstore, and get expert advice on rewarding baking during challenging times.
Each week, prior to meeting online, everyone will bake the same recipe from a recent cookbook. You’ll work from books written by authors who have a knack for producing striking, challenging, and rewarding treats that taste great.
Kitchen Arts staffer Laura Jackson will lead weekly meetings where you’ll talk about a new recipe from each book. Laura will offer context, tips, and tricks for rewarding and uncomplicated baking at home from the perspective of a former restaurant pastry chef. You’ll also hear from some of the authors themselves. And of course, everyone will have the chance to share their experiences and ideas.
During this four-week session, we’ll focus on recipes from Cookies Are Magic by Maida Heatter, Posh Tarts by Phillippa Spence, Beatrix Bakes by Natalie Paull, and Dappled by Nicole Rucker.
Registration includes all four hardcover cookbooks, which will be sent directly to you.

This event is part of our Kitchen Arts & Letters series. In collaboration with the esteemed culinary bookstore, we present talks, demos and tastings with leading cookbook authors, chefs, food historians and farmers.
Laura Jackson has spent over 15 years working in the food service industry. Her background is in vegan and vegetarian, whole foods cooking, but the call of her sweet tooth ultimately led to work as a restaurant pastry chef. Deciding it was time to pursue other interests, she switched to more front-facing roles and worked as a bakery operations manager and, later, a server in the New York City fine dining scene. Laura has been a bookseller with Kitchen Arts and Letters for over a year and assists with founding partner Nach Waxman’s out of print book sales and acquisitions.
