A workshop focused on animals — perhaps the earliest subject of human visual culture.
Students will explore rendering animals using a variety of approaches, including close observation and more process-based experiments. Subjects will include animals we see and know as well as mythical beasts and imaginative, hybrid creations, and we will consider animal environments and places as well as metaphorical and symbolic possibilities. Projects will help build familiarity with skills as they relate to observation and intuitive materials use and imagination and students can work in a variety of media. We will strive to capture the mystery and beauty of animals and explore their expressive potential. Students will need photos or other images.
