Important Update: 92Y remains open
Join James Beard Finalist author of Art of the Pie, and the soon to be released Pie Camp Kate McDermott, for a three-session interactive, demonstration baking class with follow-along instructions, and get started on baking your own pies or refresh your basic skills for pie perfection.
Each session will have a different focus, assuring success from crust to filling to pie.
Learn how to make and shape flaky pastry dough. Then use the dough to create Mini Hand Pies, Crostatas, or Little Cinnamon and Sugar Tasties.
After making a flaky pastry dough, learn to roll it out, and fill it with an easy to make “Kitchen Cupboard” style filling that uses ingredients most will already have on hand; eggs, sugar, milk, and butter … plus a few seasonings. Then learn to make an easy flute finish along the edge. (Bake may finish after session ends)
Using your new skills, make the pastry on your own and then join McDermott at the baking counter to roll it out and fill it with a delicious pear filling. Learn how easy it is to vary the filling with seasonally available fruits and learn to make a lattice crust, too. (Bake may finish after session ends)
