Color in Clay: Who's Making Work Now? with Namita Gupta Wiggers

An OnDemand Online Lecture

Jan 21, 2015

Conversations about diversity are never easy. Who is working through clay right now? Where is the world in ceramics programs in the USA?

As we enter the fourth, possibly fifth generation removed from the Mingei Movement’s sweeping changes of Western ceramics in the1950s, where is a visible impact of broader global traditions in ceramics in USA? Where are intersections between indigenous traditions—such American Indian traditions right here in the USA—with ceramics programs graduating thousands of BFA and MFAs each year? What needs to shift for ceramics in the USA to expand beyond a fetishization of China, Japan, Korea and Modernism?

92Y needs your help

Many of you have asked how you can help 92Y as we face tremendous financial losses due to Covid-19. From now through June 30, your gift will be matched dollar for dollar up to $250,000 by an anonymous donor—going twice as far in supporting 92Y. You can help sustain our beloved institution and support the creation of new, online programming that will bring comfort and inspiration to our community. Thank you for anything you can do to help.
