Atul Gawande, Bill Hayes and Maria Popova take part in a words-and-music tribute to the beloved neurologist and author upon posthumous publication of The River of Consciousness, a collection of essays displaying Dr. Sacks’s passionate scientific engagement — with evolution, botany, memory, time, Darwin and Freud, among other subjects — and further demonstrating his joy in knowledge and unceasing curiosity to understand what makes us human.
Pianist Simone Dinnerstein also participated in the tribute, playing Bach, but footage of her performance is unavailable at this time.
