Flutist Wendy Stern received her Master of Music Degree from the Juilliard School, where she was a scholarship student of Julius Baker and Samuel Baron. She has also studied with Toshio Takahashi at the Talent Education Research Institute in Matsumoto, Japan and with Keith Underwood in NYC. Wendy has been the guest recital artist and clinician at Suzuki Institutes at East Tennessee State University, Ithaca College, Denison University, Rockford College, the Levine School in Washington, D.C. and MacPhail Center for Music in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She has also performed and given workshops at National Flute Association Conventions in New York, New Mexico, North Carolina, Georgia and California and the British Flute Society conference in Manchester, England.
Wendy is a member of the dynamic and innovative group, Flute Force, winner of the Artists International Competition and recipient of numerous grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, Chamber Music America, and the New York Council of the Arts. With Flute Force, Wendy has performed and coached chamber music in Australia, Canada and throughout the United States. Flute Force has recorded CDs for CRI, VAl, lnnova, MPR and Windham Hill.
As a freelance flutist in New York, Wendy is on the substitute roster of many prestigious organizations, and as such, has played in the flute sections of the New York Philharmonic, the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra of St. Luke's and The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra. In addition, she presently is on the sub list of the Broadway productions of Cinderella and Phantom of the Opera.
A dedicated teacher, Wendy's present and former students have won competitions at the New York Flute Club, MTNA, NJMTEA and ABRSM and have attended Curtis, New England Conservatory, Carnegie Mellon, Manhattan School of Music, Mannes and Juilliard.
