Leslie Meyers Named 92Y’s New Fitness Director (6.21.11)

NEW YORK, NY: Jun 21, 2011 — Leslie Meyers, who has managed popular fitness clubs in Boston and California, has been named Director of Fitness at 92nd Street Y’s May Center for Health, Fitness and Sport.

92Y’s May Center, with 5,000+ members, is a health and fitness center with a cardiovascular training area, two weight-training rooms, two gyms, an indoor track, and a 25-yard ozone-disinfected pool. It offers more than 100 adult fitness classes each week as well as fitness, aquatics and sports programs for children and teens.

Ms. Meyers comes to 92Y following successful stints at California’s Club One Petaluma, where she was fitness director, and Palo Alto’s Oshman JCC, where she helped open a state-of-the-art fitness center in a brand new Jewish Community Center. At Oshman, Ms. Meyers built a team of personal trainers and developed wellness programs for youth, adults and seniors. She also generated revenue numbers that exceeded monthly goals by 100%.

Before making her mark in California, Ms. Meyers enjoyed a successful run as Boston Sports Clubs’ fitness services manager (at the flagship club in Copley Square). She also helped to turn around BSC’s Fenway club, ensuring its profitability. In 2007, she won Top Medal Performer for her achievements; she was chosen among BSC’s 127 fitness service managers.

“Leslie has a track record of building highly effective teams of fitness instructors and trainers, and having her on our team gives us the ability to provide a wider range of services to the community,” says Stacey M. Eisler, 92Y May Center Deputy Director. “She also has a strong sense of the type of programming that will best meet the needs of the populations we serve, and we look forward to implementing her ideas.”

Prior to her career as fitness club manager, Ms. Meyers led back-country educational tours in Maui, Hawaii. She also owned and operated a massage therapy practice in Charlottesville, Virginia.

In her spare time Ms. Meyers competes in marathons and triathlons.
