High energy brass-driven pop headlines this eclectic triple bill.
Armed with horns, guitars and everything in between, the six men of Great Caesar produce a brilliant and unmistakable brand of brass-fueled rock. Their sound is at once organic and electrifying, combining jazz roots with hard rock sensibilities in a way that does justice to both. On the plugged side, Great Caesar draws from bands like Sonic Youth and the Strokes, while its horns take cues from Spoon and RX Bandits. 2012 saw the release of the Scattered Air EP, recorded with Eric Bennett (Screaming Females, Laura Stevenson & the Cans), which explores musical styles ranging from bright indie-rock to dark jazz.
Valley Lodge is hot rock band from New York City featuring world-class entertainer Dave Hill (Sons of Elvis, Diamondsnake, Walter Schreifels Band) on guitar and lead throat, Phil Costello (Tragedy, Diamondsnake) on rhythm axe, Eddie Eyeball (2 Skinnee Js) on bass and Rob Pfeiffer (Sense Field) on the damn drums. They are really famous in Japan. Their music sounds like Big Star, Thin Lizzy, T. Rex, the Raspberries and Cheap Trick and they are the best basically. It's power pop meets pop rock meets your best friend’s parents going out of town when you are sixteen and think that they won’t notice if you threw a pool party.
Laurelin is from a giant alpine desert in Southern Colorado known as the San Luis Valley. "The Valley" is home to a few small towns that arrived prebuilt on railroad cars and massive flocks of migrating cranes. After moving away to attend Yale School on the East Coast she began writing folk tunes about the people, landscapes and Mexican restaurants she left behind. These songs can be heard on her debut album No Town, which she recorded with a friend and two tiny dogs in her hometown. Laurelin now lives in the Big City while planning her next move and the release of a new EP. Winter in Mind was recorded with a different friend and two big dogs in New Haven, CT and will be out Any Day Now.
