Irreverent, award-winning musical troublemaker David Yazbek returns to the 92YTribeca stage in this ongoing series, presented monthly on Mondays.

Yazbek—whose influences range from Captain Beefheart to Frank Loesser—brings musical pyrotechnics, new songs debuted at every show and unexpected guests from the worlds of theater, music, comedy and beyond. 

On Monday, March 11, Yazbek is joined by his band and special guests Jamie Block, the anti-folk darling who famously left music for a career on Wall Street and then changed his mind; and singer-songwriter/former Rockapella front man Sean Altman, best  known for co-authoring the gum-shoes anthem “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego” with Yazbek.

About David Yazbek

David Yazbek is a long-time cult favorite—a recording artist, vocalist and pianist known for his thrilling live performances and irreverent style. Over the course of his surprising career, Yazbek has earned numerous awards. A three-time Tony Award nominee, his shows The Full Monty and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels have played in over 20 countries and his latest, Women On The Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, is set to open in London next year. With his band, he has released 5 albums, the latest being Evil Monkey Man. He is also a GRAMMY-nominated record producer and an Emmy Award-winning TV writer (for Late Night with David Letterman).

About Jamie Block

Jamie Block is a New York-based singer-songwriter known for ramshackle, critical-darling, genre-bending antifolk music. In the 90s Block busked, skylarked and chain-smoked his way to indie stardom and then—rather than turn to a life of tears when Capitol Records dropped him—traitorously joined the one percent with a Wall Street career. Only when, years later, he heard a sultry New York DJ named Claudia Marshall call him back to music did he pick up his guitar again. Block’s latest release, 2013’s Whitecaps On The Hudson, presents deranged Byronic songs in loose, even organic attire. Call it antifolk or steamfolk or folkcore: pure-of-heart love songs run into unabashed pop melodies and collide with haunting spoken-word invocations.

Ex-Rockapella star Sean Altman's Jewmongous, a concert of comedy songs, is "tuneful and sharply witty" (Los Angeles Times), "relentlessly clever" (Chicago Tribune) and "bawdy with a wicked modern streak" (Washington Post), combining "the tunefulness of the Beatles and the spot-on wit of Tom Lehrer" (Boston Globe). Altman founded Rockapella and led that group through its heyday years on the Emmy-winning PBS-TV series "Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?,” for which he co-wrote the famous theme song with his childhood pal David Yazbek.

Who is eligible for priority registration?

Individuals who have participated in 92nd Street Y programs over the past year in selected program areas, participants in certain memberships, and those who have made contributions of $500 or more to 92Y, are eligible to register for programs before they become available to the general public.

How do I know if I qualify?

Patrons that qualify for Priority Registration will receive packets in the mail explaining how to purchase online. Priority registration is normally mailed 2-3 weeks before a catalog is available. Registration information includes your Patron ID#. You can use this ID# to setup your login information online. This will allow you to register early for a course or event. Please note: if you receive a packet, you are only eligible to priority register for the programs covered in your packet.
