In the midst of social disparity and issues that continue to permeate the culture, the ReadNex Poetry Squad have issued open invitations to all to step outside the prescribed lifestyle matrix and embark on a journey toward progress and greater consciousness, with a focus on youth.
Embracing the eternal tradition of conveying knowledge orally, audiences nationally and around the globe have been captivated and moved by the anti-apathetic stance of the group, comprised of four spoken word poets/emcees and one DJ. Through the art of writing and the power of music, esteemed lyrical scholars Decora, FreeFlowin, Jarabe Del Sol, Latin Translator and DJ H20 continue to uplift urban communities with their universal message and a sound influenced by hip-hop, soul, Latin and Caribbean music.
Kalae is an emcee/singer/songwriter and self proclaimed "vandal". Kalae or Kalae All Day, as she is otherwise known, is swiftly making an impression in the underground Hip-Hop scene. Opening for rappers Jean Grae, Talib Kweli, Keith Murray and CL Smooth, she has been making her presence felt on the hip hop scene in NYC since 2008.
The renowned beatboxer Adam Matta's "ability to remix his own voice is remarkable, at first singing over a synced beat and then slowing it down, speeding it up, dubbing, scratching, even using the layrngeal equivalent of a wah-wah pedal.
