“She has more voice and stamina than most singers half her age … Her voice was full and rich and perfectly in tune, and she displayed a voluptuous enjoyment of singing.”—The New York Times

After appearances on Lyrics & Lyricists and Jazz in July, the indefatigable Marilyn Maye returns to 92Y to make her 92Y solo concert debut at the 2014 Kathryn W. Stein Memorial Concert.

A musical legend for half a century, Ms. Maye holds the singer’s record of 76 appearances on “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.” In the mid-2000s she was “rediscovered” when she appeared at the renowned Rose Hall at Lincoln Center. In March 2013 she made a triumphant debut at Broadway’s nightclub, 54 Below, returning again in the fall. She will be joined by her trio for a signature program of uplifting Broadway and jazz standards.

About This Concert

Kathryn W. Stein

This concert is made possible by a bequest from Kathryn W. Stein. A longtime member of the 92Y Himan Brown Senior Program (then known as “60+”) and a lifelong patron of the arts, Miss Stein was born in New York City in 1906 to a life of wealth and privilege. Her grandfather owned the largest steam ship company on Lake Michigan, and her father was the US partner in the Patek Phillippe Watch Company. Yet both her parents instilled in her a deep commitment to service, and after attending Vasar College, Miss Stein spent her life involved in many charitable causes and contributing to dozens of organizations.

At her death, Miss Stein make several significant bequests to favorite organizations, including the American Red Cross of New York, the Southern Poverty Law Center and 92Y. Since she was particularly passionate about music, her generous legacy to 92Y supports this annual concert and extensive music programming for seniors. She is fondly remembered by those who knew her for elegance, dry wit and love of people. .
