Brief Bios
Calvin Trillin, the author of Random House's Deciding the Next Decider: The 2008 Presidential Election in Rhyme, is The Nation's "deadline poet." He has been acclaimed in fields of writing that are remarkably diverse. As someone who has published solidly reported pieces in The New Yorker for forty years, he has been called "perhaps the finest reporter in America." His wry commentary on the American scene and his books chronicling his adventures as a "happy eater" have earned him renown as "a classic American humorist." His About Alice—a 2007 New York Times best seller that was hailed as "a miniature masterpiece"—followed two other best-selling memoirs, Remembering Denny and Messages from My Father.
Jonathan Alter is an award-winning author, reporter, columnist and television analyst. Since 2011, Alter has written a column for Bloomberg View, a worldwide commentary site housed under Bloomberg News. He spent 28 years at Newsweek, where he was a longtime senior editor and columnist and wrote more than 50 cover stories. He has also written for The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Washington Monthly, The Atlantic, Vanity Fair, The New Republic and other publications. Since 1996, Alter has been an analyst and contributing correspondent for NBC News and MSNBC.
Samantha Bee was born and raised in Toronto. In 2003 she joined the cast of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and now holds the title of Most Senior Correspondent, having systematically eliminated all those before her. In addition to her work on The Daily Show, Bee can be seen opposite her husband, Jason Jones in the film Cooper’s Christmas, on Sesame Street and in the films Furry Vengeance opposite Brendan Fraser and Date Night opposite Steve Carell and Tina Fey.
Jenny Allen is a writer and performer. Her profiles, essays and reviews have appeared for years in many magazines, including the New Yorker, The New York Times, New York, Vogue, Esquire, More, Huffington Post and Good Housekeeping. Recent essays appear in Disquiet, Please! a new anthology of humor pieces from the New Yorker, and in Feed Me, a collection of essays about women and food. She is the author of a book of fables for grown-ups called The Long Chalkboard, illustrated by her husband, Jules Feiffer.
