Savor the spotlight and learn the fundamentals of cabaret, including choosing the right material, song interpretation, microphone technique and stage presence.
The workshop culminates with a performance at a New York City cabaret. Thirteen sessions include a technical rehearsal and performance.

Exploring Cabaret: Beginner/Intermediate

Collette Black, class instructor for Exploring Cabaret, has received awards and citations for excellence in various fields of cabaret including The Manhattan Association of Cabaret's Mac Award, The Nightlife Award and Backstage Bistro Award. Her Off-Broadway directing credits include Take It Easy at The Judith Anderson Theatre, What in the World? The Newsical Revue at The John Houseman Theatre and Our Life & Times at Caroline's on Broadway. Her work has been featured on Entertainment Tonight and Fox TV News. Collette serves as artistic director for Upstairs at Rose's Turn in Greenwich Village.

Mary Feinsinger has music directed many shows in New York and regional theatres. She has won many awards for her compositions—including a 2009 Jackie White Memorial Award, and a 2007 National Children's Theatre Competition Award. As co-founder, vocalist and keyboard artist of the West End Klezmorim, she performed at Carnegie Hall, The White House, Lincoln Center, Symphony Space and St. Peter's Jazz Church. The New York Times called her "the world's greatest Yiddish scat singer." A composer/lyricist in the BMI Lehman Engel Advanced Musical Theatre Workshop, she has had productions of her musical Understood Betsy all over the country.

Who is eligible for priority registration?
Individuals who have participated in 92nd Street Y programs over the past year in selected program areas, participants in certain memberships, and those who have made contributions of $500 or more to 92Y, are eligible to register for programs before they become available to the general public.
How do I know if I qualify?
Patrons that qualify for Priority Registration will receive packets in the mail explaining how to purchase online. Priority registration is normally mailed 2-3 weeks before a catalog is available. Registration information includes your Patron ID#. You can use this ID# to setup your login information online. This will allow you to register early for a course or event. Please note: if you receive a packet, you are only eligible to priority register for the programs covered in your packet.
