R.J. Cutler's powerful documentary, The World According to Dick Cheney, is a dramatic and intimate look at Cheney's life and career, featuring exclusive interviews with Cheney and his staunchest allies and fiercest critics. 92nd Street Y presents a sneak preview of the film, its only public showing in New York before it premieres on Showtime on March 15, followed by a post-screening discussion with Cutler and panelists to be announced. Find out how Cheney went from being a Yale dropout to the youngest-ever Chief of Staff for a President and then on to Congress, the Defense Department and a crucial role in shaping policy during the Bush administration. And hear from Cutler what surprised him as he learned about and talked with Cheney.

Brief Bio

R.J. Cutler is an award-winning filmmaker whose work includes the movies The War Room and The September Issue and the television series "American High" and "30 Days." Currently, Cutler is the executive producer and director of the ABC series "Nashville." He is also producing and directing the feature documentary The World According To Dick Cheney for Showtime.

Cutler’s first film was The War Room, the Oscar-nominated documentary about Bill Clinton's 1992 campaign for the presidency. In 2009, Cutler produced and directed The September Issue, the feature documentary about legendary Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, which won the Best Cinematography prize at the Sundance Film Festival and enjoyed successful theatrical runs throughout the world. Other projects include the films A Perfect Candidate and Thin and over twenty television series, including "American High," "30 Days," "Black White," "Freshman Diaries," "The Residents" and "Military Diaries." R.J. began his career as a theater director and was responsible for the original productions of Marsha Norman and Lucy Simon’s The Secret Garden, Kevin Heelan’s Right Behind the Flag and Jonathan Larson’s Superbia, among many others.

Cutler has won an Emmy Award, a Peabody Award and a GLAAD Award and has been nominated for an Academy Award, a Producers Guild Award and an Independent Spirit Award among others. In 2009, Cutler received the Television Academy’s prestigious Honor Award for his work “creating television with a conscience,” and the Museum of Television and Radio held a five-day retrospective in celebration of his work.

Who is eligible for priority registration?

Individuals who have participated in 92nd Street Y programs over the past year in selected program areas, participants in certain memberships, and those who have made contributions of $500 or more to 92Y, are eligible to register for programs before they become available to the general public.

How do I know if I qualify?

Patrons that qualify for Priority Registration will receive packets in the mail explaining how to purchase online. Priority registration is normally mailed 2-3 weeks before a catalog is available. Registration information includes your Patron ID#. You can use this ID# to setup your login information online. This will allow you to register early for a course or event. Please note: if you receive a packet, you are only eligible to priority register for the programs covered in your packet.
