This class combines Hearing, Playing and World of Music together for an enriching and exciting experience.

Hearing Music

Through playing musical games, Hearing Music will help children develop the listening skills to hear what is really happening in a piece of music. It will also help them in learning to read music through eye-ear pattern recognition. The games keep track of how well the child is doing in hearing rhythms, melodies and harmonies. It then helps them get better by keeping them on easier levels in the areas they do less well while challenging them in the areas they do better. Hearing Music offers the opportunity for any child to get closer to the musical messages in the vast repertoire of the Western heritage.

Playing Music

Playing Music empowers the child to explore the expressive elements of the musical experience. These expressive qualities are at the very highest level of the performance experience. Think for a moment about the symphony orchestra. The conductor doesn't play a single note. The conductor leads the orchestral musicians through subtle changes of tempo and loudness. Hesitating for a moment here and rushing ahead there. Soloists and chamber groups, like string quartets, do the same. This expressive skill has always come after years of training, and probably always will. But, just as a child can build a play castle with blocks without having gone through the training of an architect, this class allows children to play with expression in music and experience some of the joys and surprises these elements can bring.

World of Music

World of Music facilitates experimenting with the fundamentals of pitch, rhythm and sounds of various instruments and styles of music from around the world. Just like languages, music and instruments are different around the globe. Use the innovative "musical canvas" tool to draw compositions using the sounds of four distinct regions of the world: North America, Asia, West Africa and the Middle-East. This programs allows students to visualize the different elements of pitch and rhythm while exploring their musical potential!
