Intermediate/Advanced classes provide an introduction to the materials and processes of oil painting. Working from the still life and figure, learn how to mix, blend and apply paint to create form, surface and space. Intermediate/Advanced classes help students develop a personal art-making vocabulary.

Born in South Carolina, Brian Rutenberg has been based in New York City for the past twenty years. He received his BFA from the College of Charleston in 1987, and earned his MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York in 1989. Brian has been in over 100 exhibitions throughout North America and Europe, and he is included in numerous museum and corporate collections, including the Butler Institute of American Art, Yale University Gallery of Art, Arkansas Art Center, Morris Museum of Art, Springfield Museum of Art, and others. He is a Fulbright Scholar, a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellow, a Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation Grantee, and has won many other awards. He is represented by Forum Gallery, New York & Los Angeles, Jerald Melberg Gallery, Charlotte, Toomey-Tourell Gallery, San Francisco and David Lusk Gallery, Memphis.

Elizabeth Terhune received her MFA from Hunter College and her BA from Oberlin College. She received a Yaddo Fellowship in 1998. She has exhibited widely throughout the United States and recently had a one-person exhibition at the StandPipe Gallery in east Chelsea, NY. Her works are included in the Pierogi Gallery Flat Files, Brooklyn, NY and in the Artists Registry at the Drawing Center in New York, NY. She is a regular contributor to Broadsided Press. Melanie Kozol has been exploring the contemporary landscape since graduating Connecticut College. She attended The Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and earned an MFA from the School of Visual Arts. Melanie was awarded an NEA Visual Artist Fellowship in painting and received a Skowhegan Scholarship for Drawing at NYSS.
In addition to teaching painting and drawing at the School of the Arts, 92nd Street Y, Melanie is a visiting instructor at Pratt Institute. Her work has been widely exhibited including Project Room 88, Kathryn Markel Fine Arts, Weber Fine Art, Alexander Gallery, DFN and Bussaco. Her paintings are included in numerous public and private collections including the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the Pfizer Corporation, Deutsche Bank, Bellagio Hotel and Triomphe at the Iroquois Hotel. Doron Langberg (b.1985), originally from Israel, recently graduated from the Yale School of Art MFA program and is currently living and working in New York City. He holds a BFA from the University of Pennsylvania, a Certificate from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and attended the Yale Summer School of Music and Art, Norfolk. Doron’s work addresses issues of gender and sexuality, attempting to make ‘queerness’ a shared experience through the tactility and sensuality of oil paint. His work was exhibited in New York, Philadelphia, Detroit, Tokyo and Tel Aviv and reviewed in New American Paintings, American Artist Drawing Magazine, the Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia City Paper. Doron is the recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant and the Yale Schoelkopf Travel Prize. Who is eligible for priority registration?
Individuals who have participated in 92nd Street Y programs over the past year in selected program areas, participants in certain memberships, and those who have made contributions of $500 or more to 92Y, are eligible to register for programs before they become available to the general public.
How do I know if I qualify?
Patrons that qualify for Priority Registration will receive packets in the mail explaining how to purchase online. Priority registration is normally mailed 2-3 weeks before a catalog is available. Registration information includes your Patron ID#. You can use this ID# to setup your login information online. This will allow you to register early for a course or event. Please note: if you receive a packet, you are only eligible to priority register for the programs covered in your packet.
