Ballet Basics is a structured beginning-level classical ballet class that develops ballet vocabulary through the exploration of barre and center work.

Class exercises emphasis correct placement and alignment to build a strong technical foundation for your dancer to progress in our graded ballet program and also to complement other dance genres. Students have the opportunity to perform in both our mid-year showcase and end of the year recital.

All of our ballet classes are accompanied by a live musician and taught by accomplished professionals in the field of dance education.

    Mari Di Lena began her professional career while on scholarship at the Metropolitan Opera Ballet School, studying with Margaret Craske and Alfredo Corvino. As a child she was a member of the Met's Children's Chorus and danced leading roles in the children ballets produced by The Little Orchestra Society. At 17 she became principal dancer with the future Maryland Ballet Company. She also danced with Manhattan Festival, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens and was a principal with Ballet Guatemala and the Dortmunder Ballet. After a long career as a dramatic and classical ballet dancer she joined Pina Bausch’s Wuppertal Tanztheater where she was also responsible for giving ballet classes. After leaving the company she opened her own ballet school which she directed for 20 years. She taught extensively at the Folkwang Hochschule and taught company ballet classes for the Daniel Goldin Dance Theater in Muenster for many years.     Susan Giovanoni is a dancer, choreographer and educator. As a dancer she has studied ballet, jazz, modern, tap, hip hop, improvisation, and East and West African dance. She received her BA degree from Wheaton College (MA), with a major in English, and a minor in Theater and Dance Studies. She then moved to New York to pursue dance and dance education. She received her Master of Arts degree from New York University in 2011, becoming a New York State certified Teacher of Dance. She has taught in various settings including preschool programs, public schools, private studios, community centers, summer camps, and after-school and outreach programs. Currently she teaches Creative Ballet and Ballet Basics at the Harkness Dance Center at 92Y.

92Y YourStage provides a venue for independent curators, performers, and educators to mount a professional production. Yourstage events are confirmed once they meet a threshold for ticket sales by a certain date.

YourStage events that are ON have been confirmed; PENDING events need to generate more ticket sales; If an event fails to generate enough ticket sales, the event will be CALLED OFF, and all ticket holders will be refunded.

Eligible patrons will be able to order priority registration online.

 

Who is eligible for priority registration?

Individuals who have participated in 92nd Street Y programs over the past year in selected program areas, participants in certain memberships, and those who have made contributions of $500 or more to 92Y, are eligible to register for programs before they become available to the general public.

How do I know if I qualify?

Patrons that qualify for Priority Registration will receive packets in the mail explaining how to purchase online. Priority registration is normally mailed 2-3 weeks before a catalog is available. Registration information includes your Patron ID#. You can use this ID# to setup your login information online. This will allow you to register early for a course or event. Please note: if you receive a packet, you are only eligible to priority register for the programs covered in your packet.
