Flap, Shuffle and Slide into Tap!

Students will develop a repertoire of basic tap steps and learn how to form their own choreographic sequences. Tap I focuses on learning foundational steps such as shuffles, flaps, nifty, shim sham, maxi-ford, paradiddles, drawbacks and pullbacks. Students will be exposed to both rhythm style tap (as seen in Bring In ‘da Noise, Bring In ‘da FunK) and Broadway Style Tap (as seen in musicals and films such as 42nd Street). Classes have a strong emphasis on technique and repetition in order to encourage muscle memory and confidence to create sounds clearly each time. Students will explore tap through creative improvisation, rhythm games, and tap choreography sequences.

Our Tap Faculty are all accomplished professional performers and master dance educators.
