Basic classes introduce fundamental handbuilding techniques, including pinch, coil and slab construction and wheel throwing to make bowls, vases, cups, plates and other vessel forms.

Intermediate/Advanced classes assist you in developing personal work. Use of slips, glazes and surface decoration are covered at all levels.

    Chadwick Augustine is a visual artist whose work explores the lyrical network of materiality, landscape, and the nature of objects to imply myth. He has earned his MFA in 2004 from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, and has exhibited his work throughout the U.S. and abroad including the Usdan Gallery at Bennington College, Jingdezhen International Ceramics Museum in China, and upcoming exhibits at Arena1 Gallery in Santa Monica and Vox Populi Gallery in Philadelphia. He lives and works in New York City.

    Bethany Pelle is a sculptor and educator living in Queens, NY. Her work investigates subjective and collective desire through the examination and manipulation of domestic material culture. Bethany received her BFA in ceramics from the University of Miami in 2007 and her MFA in ceramics from Tyler School of Art in 2012. As a University Fellow at Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, she taught undergraduate ceramics courses and assisted with day to day studio operations. Prior to graduate school, Bethany worked as a studio assistant to Bonnie Seeman, an instructor at the Ceramics League of Miami and an intern at the St. Petersburg Clay Co. In addition to teaching an adult course at 92Y,  Bethany is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor at Pratt Institute and an editor for the Nicola Midnight St. Claire.

In addition, she is director of Ceramics for the Y Camps at the Henry Kaufman Campgrounds, where she developed art programs for special-needs children. In conjunction with the American Craft Museum, Carol developed programs to bring art education in the NYC public schools. Carol has also taught art at the Trinity School Day Camp, the Calhoun School and the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Her work has been shown at the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science, the Paley Design Center, Wallingford Community Art Center and Arteffects Gallery in Philadelphia. She received a BA degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

    Carol Grocki Lewis has been on the faculty at the 92nd Street Y since 1995. She earned her M.A. in Museum Studies and Art History from the Gallatin Division at New York University in 1992 and her B.S. in Art Education from SUNY College at Buffalo. She has been a teaching ceramic artist from 92nd Street Y at P.S. 37 (River East K-5) in East Harlem (An Empire State Partnership). In addition to teaching at 92Y, Lewis has taught ceramics and art at Earthworks, Marymount Manhattan College and various public and private schools. Her work was most recently included in an exhibit, History in the Making: Ceramic Traditions and Contemporary Pots in Rochester, NY and received an honorable mention from the juror, Ron Meyers. Her work has also been included in Strictly Functional Ceramics Exhibits.

    Veronica Frenning received her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. She has taught ceramics classes at Abrons Arts Center/Henry Street Settlement, City College of New York, SUNY Nassau Community College, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Hudson Guild. Veronica has participated in residencies at The Edward F. Albee Foundation, Bamboo Curtain Studio in Taipei, Abrons Arts Center, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council SPARC and Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop. She has also completed the Artist in the Marketplace program at the Bronx Museum of the Arts and is a recipient of a Jerome Travel and Study Grant. Her recent work has been exhibited at Blackburn 20|20, Proteus Gowanus, Wave Hill, Galerija Palach, Kunsthalle Galapagos, Abrons Arts Center and MASS MoCA. She lives and works in Brooklyn.

92Y YourStage provides a venue for independent curators, performers, and educators to mount a professional production. Yourstage events are confirmed once they meet a threshold for ticket sales by a certain date.

YourStage events that are ON have been confirmed; PENDING events need to generate more ticket sales; If an event fails to generate enough ticket sales, the event will be CALLED OFF, and all ticket holders will be refunded.

Who is eligible for priority registration?

Individuals who have participated in 92nd Street Y programs over the past year in selected program areas, participants in certain memberships, and those who have made contributions of $500 or more to 92Y, are eligible to register for programs before they become available to the general public.

How do I know if I qualify?

Patrons that qualify for Priority Registration will receive packets in the mail explaining how to purchase online. Priority registration is normally mailed 2-3 weeks before a catalog is available. Registration information includes your Patron ID#. You can use this ID# to setup your login information online. This will allow you to register early for a course or event. Please note: if you receive a packet, you are only eligible to priority register for the programs covered in your packet.
