Explore the world of blues, standards and jazz tunes under the guidance of a professional jazz artist and educator.

Bassists, guitarists and pianists should be able to read chord symbols at a minimum and others should be decent readers.  All should have some experience improvising on jazz standards ("Autumn Leaves," "Summertime", etc.). It's a playing class with a full band.

    New York based guitarist Nelson Riveros recently released his debut recording titled Camino Al Barrio, a Contemporary Latin-Jazz CD with a diverse array of rhythms and fresh improvisations. Camino al Barrio peaked at #8 on the Jazz Week World Music Chart. He was nominated among his peers as ‘Next Best Generation Artist’ and ‘Best Latin Jazz Guitar’ for the 2010 Latin Jazz Corner Best of The Year Awards.

    Born of Colombian parents, Nelson grew up listening to his parent’s record collection, which was a staple that instilled him with a musical appreciation at an early age. Nelson began playing guitar in high school and became well versed in the styles of rock, jazz and latin.     Ed MacEachen is a jazz guitarist who got his professional start in 1977 in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio where he studied with Bill D'Arrango (sideman with Ben Webster and Dizzy Gillespie). Ed moved to New York in 1984 where he has worked in the bands of Jack McDuff, Chico Hamilton and Erestine Anderson among many others. He currently lives and performs in the New York City area and can be heard on Eliot Zigmund's Starlight on Jazz Today Records and Bill Mobley's Singularity on Space Time Records along with others. Ed teaches at both 92nd Street Y (since 1996) and in the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music program (since 1989).

92Y YourStage provides a venue for independent curators, performers, and educators to mount a professional production. Yourstage events are confirmed once they meet a threshold for ticket sales by a certain date.

YourStage events that are ON have been confirmed; PENDING events need to generate more ticket sales; If an event fails to generate enough ticket sales, the event will be CALLED OFF, and all ticket holders will be refunded.

Who is eligible for priority registration?

Individuals who have participated in 92nd Street Y programs over the past year in selected program areas, participants in certain memberships, and those who have made contributions of $500 or more to 92Y, are eligible to register for programs before they become available to the general public.

How do I know if I qualify?

Patrons that qualify for Priority Registration will receive packets in the mail explaining how to purchase online. Priority registration is normally mailed 2-3 weeks before a catalog is available. Registration information includes your Patron ID#. You can use this ID# to setup your login information online. This will allow you to register early for a course or event. Please note: if you receive a packet, you are only eligible to priority register for the programs covered in your packet.
