“One of the city’s great summer traditions.”—Bloomberg News

Once again 92nd Street Y gives New Yorkers a reason to stay in the city for the summer with two weeks of once-in-a-lifetime performances at the 29th annual Jazz in July festival.

Artistic Director Bill Charlap has crafted six programs celebrating the full diversity of jazz. Each week opens with a salute to a jazz piano master: from the past, Fats Waller; and from the present, Chick Corea. Legends of the American Songbook are honored with evenings devoted to Jimmy Van Heusen (Swingin’ on a Star,” “Come Fly with Me”), and Henry Mancini and Johnny Mandel (The Pink Panther, M*A*S*H). The Festival hits the road for a night of West Coast jazz and ends by swinging to the sounds of Benny Goodman.

Performing all this music will be three dozen world-class artists. Making their festival debuts are tenor sax giant Chris Potter, clarinet virtuoso Anat Cohen and stellar vocalist/pianist Dena DeRose. They’ll be joined by jazz greats like the award-winning Italian pianist Rossano Sportiello, the legendary Freddy Cole and festival favorites like Houston Person, Bucky Pizzarelli and Carol Woods.
