Artist Bio
Since its inception in 1992, the Brentano String Quartet (Mark Steinberg, violin; Serena Canin, violin; Misha Amory, viola; Nina Lee, cello) has appeared throughout the world to popular and critical acclaim. Named for Antonie Brentano, whom many scholars consider to be Beethoven's "Immortal Beloved," the Quartet provided the key music—Beethoven’s String Quartet in C-sharp minor, Op. 131—for the critically-acclaimed 2012 independent film A Late Quartet, starring Philip Seymour Hoffman and Christopher Walken.
In recent seasons the Quartet has performed in the most prestigious venues of New York; Washington, DC; Amsterdam; Vienna; Tokyo and Sydney and has participated in summer festivals in Aspen, Edinburgh, Kuhmo (Finland), Taos (Japan) and Caramoor, among many others. Beginning in June 2013 the Quartet will serve as the collaborative ensemble for the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.
Beyond the standard string quartet repertoire, the Brentano String Quartet has a strong interest in both very old and very new music. It has performed many musical works by composers pre-dating the string quartet, among them Josquin, Gesualdo and Purcell, and it works worked closely with leading composers of our time; all three works on its 92Y series are Brentano commissions or co-commissions. Other recent collaborations include a new work by Steven Mackey, “One Red Rose,” which commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Kennedy assassination.
In April 2012 the first of three recordings featuring the late Beethoven Quartets was released on Aeon Records. Previous recordings include a disc of Mozart, also on Aeon, and the Op. 71 quartets of Haydn. The Quartet has released a disc of the music of Mackey on Albany Records, and has recorded the music of Bruce Adolphe, Chou Wen-chung and Charles Wuorinen. Its website is brentanoquartet.com.

Who is eligible for priority registration?
Individuals who have participated in 92nd Street Y programs over the past year in selected program areas, participants in certain memberships, and those who have made contributions of $500 or more to 92Y, are eligible to register for programs before they become available to the general public.
How do I know if I qualify?
Patrons that qualify for Priority Registration will receive packets in the mail explaining how to purchase online. Priority registration is normally mailed 2-3 weeks before a catalog is available. Registration information includes your Patron ID#. You can use this ID# to setup your login information online. This will allow you to register early for a course or event. Please note: if you receive a packet, you are only eligible to priority register for the programs covered in your packet.
