Introducing Mozart, Chamber Composer to the Emperor, and his “imperial” style.
The Class: In 1787, Mozart was appointed Chamber Music Composer to the Emperor and set out to invigorate the music of that rarefied world. He developed what scholar Christoph Wolff describes as a new “imperial style.” Louis Rosen will examine two of these more sophisticated and emotionally charged chamber works: the String Quintet in G minor, K. 516 and “Prussian” String Quartet in D major, K. 575.
The Concert: On Sat, Apr 12 at 8 pm, the internationally acclaimed Brentano String Quartet, joined by violist Hsin-Yun Huang, will perform Mozart’s String Quintet in G minor and “Prussian” String Quartet in D major. It will also perform a new string quartet by Felipe Lara, concluding the Quartet’s series at 92Y and its exclusive New York engagement.
