 | | | | | Melissa Lusk   | | | | | | Melissa Lusk was born in Brooklyn, NY and was transplanted very early to suburban Massachusetts, where she sang in the church choir and studied jazz and musical theater. She received a BFA in Drama from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, where she began writing music and exploring New York's downtown music scene.
Now an Astoria resident, Melissa pulls out her quirky pop tunes all over the boroughs. She has collaborated with artists of diverse backgrounds and sensibilities, from French jazz guitarist Matthew Brière to rock composer Matthew roi Berger. She is also able to collaborate with people who are not named Matthew.
Her influences include Ben Folds, Ella Fitzgerald, Regina Spektor, Louis Armstrong, Billy Joel, The Beatles, Jamie Cullum, the writing of Cole Porter and Rodgers & Hart and a whole lot of contemporary Christian pop from her childhood. Her writing has been compared to Randy Newman, her music to Regina Spektor and her voice to Madeleine Peyroux.
