Thomas Friedman in Conversation with Dov Seidman

Companies that get their hows wrong won't be able to just hire a P.R. firm to clean up the mess... not when everyone... can talk back and be heard globally."
—Thomas Friedman, The New York Times

What's on Tom Friedman's mind these days? The best-selling author and acclaimed New York Times columnist is embracing the work of Dov Seidman, the author of How: Why How We Do Anything Means Everything in Business (and in Life) and founder of LRN. For Friedman, along with many business leaders, writers and thinkers, How is not just a transformative book, but a lens for seeing the world and making decisions in a completely different way: wired, interconnected, cooperative and transparent. Seidman argues that concepts like trust, reputation and culture have long been seen as nice "extras" or "perks," but not central to the way business is conducted. "As a society," he says, "we don’t associate doing the right thing with getting ahead." Now, Seidman argues, doing things right in our public, private and professional lives is the most powerful way to "chart a course of enduring personal and organizational business achievement."

Tom Friedman brings Dov Seidman to the 92Y stage to talk about the thinking behind How and what it can mean in our lives and in our world. Having already shown us that the world is Hot, Flat and Crowded, Friedman talks with Seidman about how we need to change the way we behave in that hot, flat and crowded world.

The 92nd Street Y is proud to present a platform for considering and this powerful new way of understanding relationships, responsibilities and ethics. Watch for more discussions about How thinking in the future!

Brief Biography
Tom Friedman's other bestsellers include The World is Flat, Longitudes and Attitudes: The World in the Age of Terrorism, The Lexus and the Olive Tree and From Beirut to Jerusalem, which serves as a basic text on the Middle East in colleges and universities nationwide and won the National Book Award.

Dov Seidman has built a career and pioneered an industry, around the idea that the most principled businesses are the most profitable and sustainable. Fifteen years ago, long before Enron, Dov founded LRN, which has helped 10 million people in 400 companies worldwide simultaneously navigate complex legal and regulatory environments and foster ethical cultures. Dov’s award-winning and best-selling book HOW:  Why HOW We Do Anything Means Everything... in Business (and in Life), has been published in the U.S., Germany, China, Korea and Brazil. The HOW philosophy is prominently featured as one of the nine rules for companies to embrace in Friedman’s seminal book, “The World is Flat.” In Friedman’s latest work, “Hot, Flat and Crowded,” Dov suggests the sustainability of our institutions, countries and world lies in HOW.
