Education Outreach
Embracing the Public School Community for 20 Years!

Did You Know...
  • Through its Education Outreach Initiative, the Y helps fuel the dreams and imagination of over 8,000 New York City public school students each year.

  • Y Outreach programs in the visual and performing arts, science and literature combine: professional music and dance concerts, literary readings, discussions with renowned scientists and art exhibitions; classroom and private instruction at the Y; the presentation of student readings, artwork and performances in the Y’s galleries and recital halls.

  • The Afterschool Scholarship Program makes the Y's resources and faculty in the visual and performing arts available to children from families who could not otherwise afford this type of high quality arts instruction. Students study subject matter ranging from Afro-Caribbean Dance to Portfolio Preparation to Keyboards and Theory.

  • The Schools Partnership Program allows the Y to "adopt" public schools with virtually no arts programs, providing 1,650 students in four Upper Manhattan schools with 21 weeks of dance, theater and music instruction per year.

  • The budget for the Education Outreach Initiative is $1.4 Million per year and the Y’s total scholarship expenditure is $1M per year—Much of this funding is contributed to the Y!
