About the Studios
The studios are equipped with 25 electric potters’ wheels, a gas reduction kiln and three electric kilns. To visit the studio prior to registration, call 212.415.5565. Stoneware is used during the fall term and glaze-fired to cone 10. Clay is included in the cost of tuition unless you use bagged clay, which may be purchased for $20 per 25-pound bag. Firing charge is four cents per cubic inch for two firings for all work made in classes and workshops. Students must supply their own tools, which may be purchased from the 92nd Street Y.

Ceramics Open Studio
Open studio time is available to currently enrolled students for a fee of $3 per hour.

Private Instruction in Ceramics
The Y offers private instruction on Saturdays to students who are interested in exploring special topics or techniques (glazing, improving throwing skills, etc.). Participants work one-on-one with a Y faculty member within a shared studio and receive access to a firing card and open studio time. All fees apply. Single hourly lessons may be scheduled at $95 per hour or purchased as a multi-lesson package at a discounted rate. If you are interested in learning more, please call Bobby Silverman at 212.415.5565.

Corporate Teambuilding Events
Need to build morale, improve team dynamics, reward group efforts and/or reduce staff conflict? Schedule your business team-building event at the Y. Participate in a custom-designed wheel or handbuilding activity. Spend a few hours or the whole day as you learn to work with your colleagues in a relaxed, stress-free environment. Call Bobby Silverman at 212.415.5565 to schedule an event.

Independent Study
Students with substantial clay experience can pursue their own projects outside of a structured class in Independent Study. This program provides access to classroom space during all Open Studio hours throughout the semester. All firing fees remain the same. Approval of the director and attendance at an orientation is required. $450 for the fall semester. For more information, call Bobby Silverman at 212.415.5565.

The 92nd Street Y Art Center’s Ceramics Program is supported by an endowment with a generous gift from the Jeremiah Kaplan Foundation. It is also supported by Daniel and Edith Ehrlich; Helene B. Eiber; Suzanne G. and William J. Sales; and Roberta K. and Robert Mahler among others.
